However, the club provides a comprehensive ground-school that makes it possible for all members to pass the exams.<\/p>\n<\/div><div id=\"faq-150\" class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-title\">What\u2019s involved in the skills test for the LAPL?<\/div><div id=\"faq-WhatsinvolvedintheskillstestfortheLAPL\" class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-content\"><p>The LAPL test involves an oral examination in all aspects of private aircraft operation including technical, weather, regulations and navigation. The flight takes approximately 2 hours and assesses the pilot\u2019s ability in operating the aircraft in normal, abnormal and emergency situations.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><h3 id=\"faq-flying-lessons-and-instruction\" class=\"arconix-faq-term-title arconix-faq-term-flying-lessons-and-instruction\">Flying Lessons and Instruction<\/h3><div class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-wrap\"><div id=\"faq-129\" class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-title\">Can I take a trial lesson?<\/div><div id=\"faq-CanItakeatriallesson\" class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-content\"><div class=\"article-content\">Only members of the club may take flying lessons.<\/div>\n<\/div><div id=\"faq-133\" class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-title\">Do the instructors get paid?<\/div><div id=\"faq-Dotheinstructorsgetpaid\" class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-content\"><p>No. In fact no club member receives any remuneration for the work they do for the club.<\/p>\n<\/div><div id=\"faq-135\" class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-title\">How many flying instructors are in the club?<\/div><div id=\"faq-Howmanyflyinginstructorsareintheclub\" class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-content\"><p>The club has six flying instructors and all of them learned to fly with the club.<\/p>\n<\/div><div id=\"faq-140\" class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-title\">How much money would I need to have to spend in taking flying lessons?<\/div><div id=\"faq-HowmuchmoneywouldIneedtohavetospendintakingflyinglessons\" class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-content\"><div class=\"article-content\">\n<p>The biggest single item cost is the joining and membership fees. When that\u2019s paid, you can expect to spend on average \u20ac90 per lesson which is the cost of time in the air. Though you can tailor expenditure to your circumstances.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span class=\"article_separator\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><div id=\"faq-131\" class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-title\">What is the minimum age for taking flying lessons at the club?<\/div><div id=\"faq-Whatistheminimumagefortakingflyinglessonsattheclub\" class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-content\"><p>18 years. This is due to child protection laws.<br \/>\nOnly the instructor and the student are allowed in the aircraft during a training session.<\/p>\n<\/div><div id=\"faq-137\" class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-title\">When can I take flying lessons?<\/div><div id=\"faq-WhencanItakeflyinglessons\" class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-content\"><p>The club is busy during weekends and this is the best time to get lessons. However, between April and October, there will be certain evenings scheduled for flight training. This is normally Tuesday or Thursdays but may change depending on instructor availability <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><h3 id=\"faq-galway-flying-club\" class=\"arconix-faq-term-title arconix-faq-term-galway-flying-club\">Galway Flying Club<\/h3><div class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-wrap\"><div id=\"faq-158\" class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-title\">How can I find out more about the club?<\/div><div id=\"faq-HowcanIfindoutmoreabouttheclub\" class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-content\"><p>The best thing to do is come to visit at any time during the week-end. You will be very welcome and you can meet some of the members who will be happy to tell you all about it.<\/p>\n<\/div><div id=\"faq-156\" class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-title\">How does the club get funds to pay its bills?<\/div><div id=\"faq-Howdoestheclubgetfundstopayitsbills\" class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-content\"><p>Galway Flying Club is a voluntary organisation. The club charges members an annual fee and new members pay a joining fee. After that, members pay an hourly charge to use the aircraft. The total funds collected are used to meet all the club\u2019s costs.<\/p>\n<\/div><div id=\"faq-162\" class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-title\">How is the club managed and who makes the decisions?<\/div><div id=\"faq-Howistheclubmanagedandwhomakesthedecisions\" class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-content\"><p>The club is managed by a committee of directors elected by the members each year at the Annual General Meeting. The committee meets monthly and takes whatever decisions are required in connection with the running of the club.<\/p>\n<\/div><div id=\"faq-152\" class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-title\">How many members are in the club?<\/div><div id=\"faq-Howmanymembersareintheclub\" class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-content\"><p>It varies from one year to the next but approximately 100.<\/p>\n<\/div><div id=\"faq-154\" class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-title\">What type of aircraft does the club have?<\/div><div id=\"faq-Whattypeofaircraftdoestheclubhave\" class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-content\"><p>The club owns two Cessna 172 aircraft which were purchased new from the manufacturer.<\/p>\n<\/div><div id=\"faq-160\" class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-title\">Where is the club located?<\/div><div id=\"faq-Whereistheclublocated\" class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-content\"><p>The club is located at Galway Airport on the R339. At the city side of Carnmore Cross<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><h3 id=\"faq-medical-requirements\" class=\"arconix-faq-term-title arconix-faq-term-medical-requirements\">Medical Requirements<\/h3><div class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-wrap\"><div id=\"faq-146\" class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-title\">Do you have to have perfect eyesight to get a pilot licence?<\/div><div id=\"faq-Doyouhavetohaveperfecteyesighttogetapilotlicence\" class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-content\"><p>You need to pass the vision test with or without spectacles and you must pass a colour vision test.<\/p>\n<\/div><div id=\"faq-144\" class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-title\">What are the medical requirements?<\/div><div id=\"faq-Whatarethemedicalrequirements\" class=\"arconix-faq-accordion-content\"><p>You must pass a Class 2 medical test periodically, depending on your age.
